The seniors examined points of view, or perspectives, of the stories that we've read. We looked at examples of stories/poems that changed points of view in various drafts. We read the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" together and viewed a student project, using paper art to recreate the story.

Today the seniors discussed character and setting in the stories from Chapters 13 and 14. Next, we worked on the literary terms in chapters 11 through 14, using Quizlet and its various tools. Finally, the seniors worked on writing a story with a unique character or setting.
ABSENT STUDENTS SHOULD: Turn in your thesis and claims or evidence for a Chapter 13 or 14 story.

The seniors talked about unique plot structures today and attempted to draw and label the type of plot of the two Chapter 12 stories. Next, we reviewed claims and evidence with an exercise on a poem by Billy Collins. Finally, the students worked on a sudden-fiction or flash-fiction story with a unique plot structure.

Today the seniors took a vocabulary quiz over the literary terms in Chapters 9-11. Then we learned how to access Canvas and AP English assignments and information there. Next, we reviewed the four types of sentences (simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex) with a pre-test, review, practice quiz, and sample sentences. Finally, the seniors did their first Creative Writing of a sudden-fiction or flash-fiction story.
ABSENT STUDENTS SHOULD: Ask a classmate about accessing Canvas or see Miss Bergman for help. Arrange to make-up your vocab quiz in Seminar. Take the quiz on Sentence Structure until you earn at least a 70%. Write a sudden-fiction story (about 1/2 to 2 pages long).
ASSIGNMENT FOR NEXT CLASS: Read Chapter 12, and write a thesis on one of the short stories. Finish your sudden-fiction story.

The seniors worked through the practice MC exam today and debated on answers, in an effort to better understand the questions. We went over the correct answers (although we disagreed with a few). Then the seniors peer reviewed each other's 2nd drafts of the essay.

Today the seniors held their first Writing Workshop, discussing each other's 1st drafts and giving the authors feedback on what is strong and what needs work. Then we discussed ideas on revision and the AP Rubric of Rubrics. Then we discussed the stories from Chapter 10 and worked in our collaborative groups to do a 4T chart to find theme.
ABSENT STUDENTS SHOULD: Get your commented-on drafts back to their authors ASAP. Pick up your drafts from your tub folder in the back of the classroom.
ASSIGNMENT FOR NEXT CLASS: Read Chapter 9 and take notes on the bold-faced words. Write a Twitter Fiction story (in 140 characters or fewer). Read your group members' comments on your draft.

Today the seniors looked at sample essays for the prompt on The Street. We ranked them according to the rubric and then discussed the true scores and why the essays received those scores. Next, we used a tool called the 4 Ts to analyze poetry and decide on a theme of the poem.
